Core Leadership Skills
Innovation Central recognises the requirement to develop core leadership skills for all leaders and managers, regardless of their leadership tier.
Naturally, the content and depth of the facilitation will vary to ensure a suitable level of challenge and support for each audience. However, the following overview provides a flavour of a core leadership skills programme that will enhance the capabilities of all people leaders to manage people and performance outcomes effectively and aligned with the target culture.
Core Leadership Skills & Management Skills Architecture
Developing Self-Awareness
A workshop to raise participants’ self-awareness, supporting them in understanding their drivers and preferences and developing ways of using this awareness effectively and efficiently.
As an outcome of this core leadership skills workshop, learners can:
- Describe their values and beliefs and identify how these affect their style and behaviour.
- Identify their style and what this means to them, and their role.
- Understand the personal drivers and motivations of others.
- Use their knowledge and insight to develop flexible management approaches and mitigate conflict.
- Identify ways of adapting their style to build teams and develop rewarding relationships that have limited conflict and opposition.
Delivering High Performance
Designed to hone participants’ ability to performance manage effectively to maximise the performance and potential of their people. This workshop develops a deep understanding that performance management balances the ‘what’ (task) and the ‘how’ (behaviour).
As an outcome of this core leadership skills workshop, learners can:
- Set and review robust personal and performance objectives that contribute to business performance.
- Set bespoke and tailored development objectives that underpin and support the achievement of performance objectives and take into consideration career aspirations.
- Raise others’ awareness and understanding that performance management is an equal balance between task achievement and demonstrated behaviours.
- Use of coaching models to ensure effective performance management meetings.
- Understand the importance of timely feedback to maximise performance management opportunities and the techniques to make feedback effective.
- Identify how and when to implement capability and consequence management for the good of the individual, team and organisation.
Driving and Promoting an Inclusive Culture
This module is designed to challenge participants to identify their personal biases and understand how these impact their leadership and management capability, decisions and actions.
As an outcome of this core leadership skills workshop, learners can:
- Understand what it means to have an inclusive culture.
- Understand personal bias and the impact it can have on relationships.
- Identify ways to manage bias proactively.
- Build an inclusive team that understands and addresses micro-behaviours.
People Management Essentials
Our People Management Essentials module is designed to develop the skills and behaviours required to confidently lead and manage HR/people practices. This intervention focuses on the most frequently referenced HR policies and procedures (i.e. recruitment and selection, absence management, exit, disciplinary and grievance). Participants are challenged to look at how they currently engage, own and apply them daily.
As an outcome of this core management skills workshop, learners can:
- Understand their responsibility to own and apply HR policies and procedures consistently.
- Apply questioning, listening and documenting skills to HR situations.
- Identify what gets in the way of using HR policies and procedures.
